Diagnosis and treatment of psoriasis

Diagnosis of the illness will be determined by a skin doctor-dermatologist. In case the medical finding would not be equivocal, it is possible to do a microscopic examination of the skin sample. The doctor will determine the treatment individually, based on the specific condition of the skin. Psoriasis is nowadays quite well treatable, unfortunately not curable. Hereditary disposition stays even when fully healed and therefore it is not possible to prevent recurrence. Since psoriasis is an uncurable disease, it is important that we find safe and long-term applicable ways of treatment. The main treatment for chronic psoriasis these days are locally applicable corticosteroids. In the past few years concern in regards to the side effects of corticosteroids has increased. Patients all over the word would like to have an effective and safe, alternative method of treatment. Products made of medicinal plants represent the best affordable treatment, eventhough on these locally applicable products were not performed strict clinical trials ordered by research teams. Dr Michaels‘ product lines have proved in the past twenty years to be effective and safe, despite the fact that there were no independent and research clinical trials carried out on these products.

Medication taken externally

Creams, lotions, solutios or gels. In most cases the doctor starts the treatment with corticoids. This medication is derived from the hormone of the adrenal cortex with strong anti-flammatory effects. Therefore they are most suitable for the acute stages of psoriasis. But they also have undesirable effects. Dermatologist may as well recommend radiation, so called „light-treatment“ (mostly ultraviolet light). It can be practiced as outpatient treatment or while staying in a hospital or a spa.

Medication taken internally

They are taken by mouth (orally) or intravenously. These medication types have a lot of undesirable effects therefore regular check-ups are important while taking. A patient has to undergo laboratory tests before beginning and during this treatment. Entirely new group of psoriasis medication is called biologics. They target the immunological process in psoriasis and are better tolerated. They are administered only by a needle: some under the skin and some into the vein. This treatment is prescribed for patients with severe plaque psoriasis, where at least two ongoing medications have been without effect.
