Cause of psoriasis
Psoriasis is a skin condition that affects about 4 % of the population and causes great discomfort. For some sufferers, it may even result in hospitalization.
The cause of psoriasis is unknown, although it is well accepted that there is an underlying genetic component which, when triggered, causes the immune system to produce an excessive number of skin cells. As such it has been termed an auto-immune skin disorder. At present there is no cure.
Psoriasis treatment traditionally focuses on treating the symptoms of the disorder and as a result this skin disease rarely goes into remission and often reappears soon after treatment has concluded.
